Bigger is always the answer

When I moved into this house in the Midlands Aug 19 (so good to have space and not be stuck in a 1 bed flat in London) I went for the cheap IKEA desk option, pairing a 120cm Linnmon top with a set of Alex draws I had before and Lerberg trestle.

This worked, but it was never enough space for me particularly when I started to get into Amateur Radio.

Old Desk

Through lock down I have been spending lots more time in my office and the lack of space was starting to get to me, I bought myself an iiyama GB3461WQSU for Christmas so only had space for one monitor and the final straw was knocking my Yaesu 857d off the top of my pc case and doing some damage to the face plate!

The plan

I have long been tempted by a solid wood desk so in the dead time between Christmas and New Year I bit the bullet and ordered a 200cm x 72cm x 3.8cm length of Beech worktop from eBay.

Got Wood

After many coats of Danish Oil, a couple of monitor arms and getting it into place on my Alex draws I had this.

In Place

Some rearranging later, some new purchases and getting everything else in place this is how it stands now (yes I know cable management is required!)

All Set Up

I am still playing with the layout, considering putting the PC on the floor as the RF interference at the moment is terrible but it is very usable and is encouraging me to get on with some projects that have been in the queue for a while.
