For my home server ’needs’ I run a 3 node Proxmox cluster comprising of the following:
Storage Server - Dell T20
- Xeon E3-1225 v3
- 12GB Ram
- Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
- 120gb SSD boot drive
- 4x2TB Rust in ZFS RaidZ for file storage and backups
- 4x120gb SSD in mdadm Raid10 for VM storage
- Services
- Plex
- Webmin
- Ubuntu Livepatch
Cluster Nodes - Dell R210ii
- Xeon E3-1230 v1
- 16gb Ram
- Proxmox 6.3
- 120gb Boot drive
Other Hardware
- APC Smart-UPS 1500
- Netgear GS108Tv2
- FRITZ!box 7530 - Zen Provided
VMs
- Download - Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, NZBGet and Muximux to tie them together
- Log - Cloudlog amateur radio QSO logging software
- Valheim - Valheim server
- Aeronaut - IRCCat bot
- Mail - Mailcow server for my .tech domain
- Factorio - Factorio server
Despite this all being fairly old hardware I find that for my usage everything sits at around 100W power draw, even when maxed out (folding@home on everything) the highest draw I have seen was around 350W.
I’m lucky enough to be close enough to a FTTC cab to get the full 80/20 available so I can host things comfortably.
Its nice to know that there is enough power to spin up anything I want to play with or a dedicated server to what ever game I happen to be playing at the time.
Future Projects
- 10Gb Networking between Storage and the Nodes
- Move to a VM router
- Unifi wifi6
- Swap out the 2TB disks in the ZFS array for larger disks
